"Violeta se fue a los cielos" Film Screening

Location: La Raza Galería, 1022-1024 22nd St. between J & K Sts. in midtown Sacramento
Description: Film Screening: February 3rd-6:30pm "Violeta se fue a los cielos". This film is a portrait of famed Chilean singer and folklorist Violeta Parra filled with her musical work, her memories, her loves and her hopes. She was a influential Chilean composer songwriter, ethnomusicologist and visual artist. She set the basis for "Chilean' New Song", La Nueva Canción chilena, a renewal and a reinvention of Chilean folk music which would absorb and extend its influence far beyond Chile. She passed on February 5, 1967 at the age of 50. Dr. Fred Dobb, the galería's film curator, will give a pre-film lecture.

About La Raza Galería Posada: LRGP is a non-profit, multi-disciplinary cultural center and public space serving the Sacramento community, offering Latino/Chicano and Native arts exhibitions, art education programs, workshops, films and concerts and serves as a community gathering place. La Raza Galería Posada is located at 1022-1024 22nd St. between J & K Sts. in Sacramento, California. School tours and group tours are offered Monday- Saturday by reservation.
