Description: The 5th Annual Sacramento Asian Pacific Film Festival Returns to Oak Park Celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month in May!

(Sacramento) – Join the Sacramento Asian Pacific Film Festival as we return to the historic Guild Theater on Saturday, May 18th!

For our fifth anniversary year, we present JOURNEYS, with tales that explore Asian and Pacific Islander experiences while embracing universal themes of family, love, and perseverance.

Presented by the Sacramento Asian Pacific Cultural Village during National Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, this year’s festival is hosted by community leaders Rosie Dauz, Kelly Fong Rivas, Pachia Lucy Vang, and Neo Veavea.

Cinematic highlights include the award winning film DEFENDER, from the late San Francisco Public Defender Jeff Adachi and co-director Jim Choi. A Sacramento native, Adachi’s work advocating for criminal justice reform, police accountability, immigrant and refugee rights will further be explored in a post-film panel discussion.

Co-presented with the ABAS Law Foundation, the free post-film panel In Pursuit of Justice includes social justice activists Tanya Faison (Founder, Black Lives Matter – Sacramento), Bobby Roy (Facilitator, The Second Circle), and Neo Veavea (LGBTQ activist and Program Director, Samoan Community Development Center).

Other featured films include A PLACE IN THE MIDDLE (Dean Hamer, Joe Wilson) which explores the Hawaiian tradition of embracing both male and female spirit, the Hmong American coming-of-age story 1985 (Kang Vang), and the Filipino American break-out film THE DEBUT (Gene Cajayon) featuring Dante Basco. We are again proud to feature several award-winning shorts from our sibling festival Asians on Film.
