Monica Stark is the editor of Valley Community Newspapers and the West Sacramento News-Ledger. She grew up in San Jose, attended UC Berkeley and graduated in 2004 with a bachelor’s in English literature. At the time she didn’t think she had what it takes to be a journalist. Even then, journalism was a dying profession and her parents advised against writing as a career—so she decided to enroll in the teaching credential program at Sac State. Big mistake! Monica truly loves what she does and can’t imagine doing anything else. She has been in the business professionally since 2005. As editor of Valley Community Newspapers in Sacramento, she has been editing the Land Park News, East Sacramento News, Pocket Newsand Arden-Carmichael News since 2012 and the News-Ledger since 2014. All of these publications rely on community journalism, a common denominator shared with Access Sacramento's mission to "help you tell your story."
