Every film begins with an idea. A Place Called Sacramento helps local storytellers turn that idea into something a whole community can share.

Presented by Access Sacramento, A Place Called Sacramento (PCS) is a year-round filmmaking program that brings original stories from script to screen. Through a screenwriting competition, hands-on workshops, and connections with volunteer actors and crews, emerging filmmakers gain experience bringing their visions to life. The journey culminates in a premiere at the historic Crest Theatre—a celebration of films made here and the people who make them possible.

For first-time filmmakers, PCS offers a place to begin. For experienced creatives, it offers opportunities to collaborate and share their talents. For audiences, it’s a chance to see Sacramento through someone else’s eyes and to discover the characters, places, and perspectives that make this community our own.

At its heart, PCS helping people learn, create, and make their voices heard. Donors and sponsors help sustain that opportunity, supporting practical learning, creative connections, and a public stage for local stories.

Whether you’re imagining your first film, lending your talents, cheering from the audience, or investing in local creativity, there’s a place for you in A Place Called Sacramento.
