Access Sacramento’s classes and workshops are a hands-on way to build media skills, explore your creativity, and start making your own projects. Whether you want to learn podcasting, video production, editing, screenwriting, or studio production, these opportunities are designed to help beginners and emerging creators gain confidence and develop practical experience to bring their ideas to life.

Important reminder for new members: Before using the studio or borrowing equipment, all new members must attend a virtual Zoom orientation. The free session covers our community media center, and the Federal Communications Commission rules members must follow. You may still begin taking classes before attending orientation.

How to be a Podcast Producer

An audio producer’s role is to create and deliver an audio podcast that technically and editorially meets the listeners expectations.

The audio producer oversees the smooth running of the show, confirming equipment functionality, and monitors the quality and relevance of the show. They consider the audience’s interests and preferences, and make sure the show is engaging and appropriate. All will get listeners to come back for more!

Field Production Class

Learn how to video record using video & audio equipment from the Access Sacramento equipment lending library. You will learn three-point lighting basics, how to use high definition camcorders, as well as tripod and audio equipment accounting for different field location conditions.

This class teaches basic navigation and edit functions in this popular non-linear editing software program.

Television Studio Production: Four-Day Intensive

Learn the fundamentals of live, multi-camera studio production in this fast-paced, 12-hour hands-on workshop. Designed for beginners and aspiring producers, you’ll gain practical experience in camera operation, lighting, audio, and control room workflows. Over four sessions, you’ll rotate through key crew roles; Audio technician, Technical Director, Floor Director, CG, 3-play, Director and Talent; while learning how a professional studio team works together. The course culminates in producing a short multi-camera segment that may air on Access Sacramento. No experience required—just bring your creativity and readiness to get hands-on.
